How long should a driver’s licence be valid for?

If you pass your driving test at the age of 17 your driver’s licence will be valid until you are 70 years old. At that point you will be asked to certify that you are medically fit to drive still and your new licence will be issued. Every 3 years after this you will be asked to self certify yourself medically fit for a new licence to be issued. But when is it time to hang up the keys and stop driving?

Getting a grip on tyres

In 2012, across the whole of Europe, compulsory tyre labelling will be enforced, to show customers the noise, fuel economy and wet grip efficiency of the tyres they are about to buy. This label on the tyres will be displayed as a rating similar to the current energy rating on white goods such as fridges, and is hoped to help people become more informed and responsible about the tyres they are purchasing.

8 lives left for Kenzie the cat!

One-year-old Kenzie used one of his 9 lives when he was found under the bonnet of his owner’s car! Kenzie had managed to get himself into the engine bay of Diane Findlay’s car before she set off for her journey into Aberdeen.

20 year old cyclist dies

On 10th November 2011, a 28 year old lorry driver was found not guilty of death by dangerous driving over an accident where he fatally hit 20 year old student cyclist Olin Poulson on 3rd September 2010 on the A40 near Camarthen.

ABI raising concerns

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has raised concerns about issuing full driving licences straight away and is calling for new measures to be put into place for newly qualified drivers to make them safer on the roads. It is hoped that their new proposals could help reduce the number of young people who die on UK roads each year.
